Pozner<\/a> und <a href=\"http:\/\/jessicaseigel.com\/\">Jessica Seigel<\/a>, ob <em>Desperate Housewives<\/em> frauenfeindlich oder einfach nur unterhaltsam sei. Ich muss gestehen, dass ich nach ihrem <a href=\"http:\/\/www.msmagazine.com\/spring2005\/desperatehousewives.asp\">E-Mail-Schlagabtausch<\/a> nicht weiter in meiner Argumentation bin als vorher. Ich bin genauso wie Pozner davon genervt, dass die M\u00e4dels fast immer so aussehen wie Karikaturen von Frauen, muss aber auch Seigel zustimmen, dass die M\u00e4nner in der Serie auch nicht viel besser wegkommen.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>(Pozner:)<\/p>\n<p>(&#8230;) Hyped as a cunning parody, <em>Housewives<\/em> is light on actual satire and heavy on the sorts of cultural clich\u00e9s that play well at red state country clubs. Of the four main characters, three are white, all are wealthy and only one has a job \u2013 divorced mom Susan (Teri Hatcher), supposedly a children\u2019s-book illustrator. The only nonwhite wife, Gabrielle (Eva Longoria), plays into every tired clich\u00e9 about oversexed, \u201cspicy\u201d\u009d Latina gold diggers.<\/p>\n<p>On Wisteria Lane, female friendships are shallow and only superficially supportive, and the rare woman who doesn\u2019t conform to an ultrathin, waxed ideal of beauty gets strangled in her kitchen (literally, as happened to a plump, nosy neighbor). (&#8230;)<\/p>\n<p>(Seigel:)<\/p>\n<p>(&#8230;) This show doesn\u2019t \u201chark back\u201d\u009d to the past \u2013 it skewers the myth of motherhood and suburban bliss with Feminine Mystique-inspired irony so sly that conservatives are as divided as liberals over whether to love it or hate it.<\/p>\n<p>Its stealth feminism has not been lost on the \u201cvalues\u201d\u009d crowd, including Rev. Donald Wildmon\u2019s American Family Association (AFA), which predictably denounced the show as immoral. Not surprisingly, Wildmon\u2019s group condemned its adulterous antics but not the murderous ones, singling out Gabrielle\u2019s affair with a hunky teenaged gardener. Disgusting, isn\u2019t it? Adult women finally get to ogle hottie jailbait without feeling like Mrs. Robinson \u2013 a visual droit du seigneur long enjoyed by men.
